Hyalite Reservoir is a beautiful lake in southwest Montana. It was made by building a dam on Hyalite Creek. This dam created a large reservoir.

The lake is nestled in Hyalite Canyon. It sits high up, about 6,699 ft (2,042 m) above sea level. You can find it about 12 miles (19 km) south of Bozeman, Montana. It's also about 25 miles (40 km) north of Yellowstone National Park.

The reservoir was first built in the 1940s. It was made even bigger in 1993. At first, it was called Middle Creek Reservoir. But in the late 1960s, its name was changed to Hyalite Reservoir.

Where is Hyalite Reservoir?

Hyalite Reservoir is in the southwest part of Montana. It's about 12 miles (19 km) south of Bozeman. You can reach it by traveling about 10.5 miles (16.9 km) up Hyalite Canyon.

The lake is located at the northern end of the Gallatin Range. This mountain range is just south of the Gallatin Valley.

When the lake is full, it holds a lot of water. It has a volume of about 4.43614×10+8 cubic feet (1.25617×107 m3). The surface area is about 206 acres (83 ha). The amount of water in the lake changes a lot with the seasons.
