Héctor de Pignatelli y Colonna, 3rd Duke of Monteleone (also known as Ettore III) was an important leader in Spain. He was born in 1574 and lived until 1622. From 1603 to 1611, he served as the viceroy of Catalonia, which is a region in Spain. A viceroy was like a governor who ruled a region in the name of the king. In 1610, he made a big decision to ask a group of people called Moriscos to leave Spain.
Early Life and Family
Héctor de Pignatelli y Colonna was born in 1574. His father was Camilo Pignatelli y Folch de Cardona, who was the 2nd Duke of Monteleone. When his father passed away in 1583, Héctor was only nine years old. At this young age, he inherited the title and became the 3rd Duke of Monteleone.
His grandfather, Ettore Pignatelli e Caraffa, was the first person in their family to be called "Duke of Monteleone." This special title was given to him by Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor, in 1527. His grandfather had also been a viceroy, ruling Sicily from 1517 to 1534.
Marriage and Children
Héctor de Pignatelli y Colonna married Caterina Caracciolo y Mendoza. They had a daughter named Girolama Pignatelli y Caracciolo.
Héctor did not have any sons. So, when he passed away in 1622, his daughter Girolama became the Duchess of Monteleone. She later married Fabrizio Pignatelli. Their son, also named Ettore, eventually became the 5th Duke of Monteleone.
The Dukes of Monteleone Today
Today, the current Duke of Monteleone is Jose Maria Pignatelli de Aragon y Burgos. He lives in Spain and holds a special title called a Grandee of Spain. This title is given to some of the most important noble families in Spain.
