Hütten was once a town, or 'municipality,' located in the Horgen area within the Zürich region of Switzerland. On January 1, 2019, Hütten joined with another town called Schönenberg to become part of a larger town named Wädenswil. This means Hütten is no longer a separate municipality.

The first time Hütten was ever written about was in the year 1270. Back then, it was called ze dien Hütten. This is how we know it has been around for a very long time!

Where is Hütten Located?

Hütten covers an area of about 7.2 square kilometers (2.8 square miles). A big part of this land, about 53%, is used for farming. Forests cover another 37% of the area.

About 5.5% of Hütten's land has buildings or roads. The rest, about 4.8%, is made up of things like rivers or mountains that aren't used for building. In 1996, buildings and roads took up about 2.8% of the total area. Water, like streams and lakes, made up 2.8% of the unused land. As of 2007, some new construction was happening on 1.8% of the town's land.

Hütten is located near a small lake called the Hüttnersee. This lake is also shared with the nearby town of Richterswil. Hütten is a 'linear village,' which means it's made up of small groups of houses and farms spread out along both sides of the Sihl river.

Who Lives in Hütten?

Hütten has a population of about 880 people (as of 2022). In 2007, about 6.5% of the people living in Hütten were from other countries. By 2008, there were slightly more males (52.9%) than females (47.1%). Over the past ten years, the number of people living in Hütten has grown by about 7.4%.

Most people in Hütten speak German (about 93%). English is the second most common language (1.5%), followed by Albanian (1.3%).

Voting and Politics

In the 2007 local election, the most popular political group was the SVP. They received more than half of the votes (55.7%). Other popular groups included the CSP (11%), the SPS (9.6%), and the CVP (7.3%). These groups represent different ideas about how the town should be run.
