About Ian Wachtmeister
Ian Wachtmeister was born on a family estate called Nääs, near Nyköping in Sweden. This happened on December 24, 1932.
Education and Early Career
He studied mining and metal production at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. He finished his studies in 1957. After school, he had a very successful career in business. He became the boss (called a CEO) of big companies like Oxelösunds Järnverks AB and Gränges Aluminium AB.
Starting a Political Party
In 1991, Ian Wachtmeister teamed up with a record company owner named Bert Karlsson. Together, they started a new political party called New Democracy. This party became quite popular.
New Democracy in Parliament
As the leader of New Democracy, Ian Wachtmeister helped the party get seats in the Swedish Parliament in the 1991 election. This meant they could help make laws for the country. The party had strong opinions about Sweden's rules for people moving into the country (immigration). Because of these strong views, some people accused the party of being unfair or prejudiced. Ian Wachtmeister left the party in April 1994.
Later Political Work
Before the 1998 election, Ian Wachtmeister tried to start another party called Det nya partiet (The New Party). However, this party did not last long and was not successful. After that, he focused more on his business interests, especially a company called The Empire. In 2010, he also worked as an advisor for the leader of another political group, the Sweden Democrats.
