Old Town: Dalt Vila
The older part of the city is known as the Catalan Dalt Vila. This means "Upper Town". It is built on a small mountain right by the sea. This historic area has narrow streets and old buildings.
Modern Area: Eixample
The newer part of Ibiza City is called the Eixample. This word means "Extension". It is the more modern area with wider streets and newer buildings.
Population and Importance
Ibiza City is the biggest and most important town on the island of Ibiza. In 2021, about 50,643 people lived there. It is also the capital of the Pityusic Islands. This group includes Ibiza and the nearby island of Formentera.
