Ibrahim Sekagya (born December 19, 1980) is a famous Ugandan football player. He used to play as a defender, specifically a "centre back." Today, he is a coach for a team called New York Red Bulls II in MLS Next Pro.

Ibrahim Sekagya's Football Journey
Ibrahim Sekagya was born in Kawempe, Kampala, Uganda. As a young boy, he loved playing football. He started on a simple dirt field called 'kataka'. Later, he joined local teams like Kampala City Council FC. In 1992, he began his professional career with Kampala City Council. In 1998, he moved to Argentina to chase his football dreams.
Playing in Argentina
Sekagya's first club in Argentina was Atlético de Rafaela. He played for them in the Primera B Nacional league. In 2002, he moved to Ferro Carril Oeste. He helped his new team win the Primera B Metropolitana league. This win meant they moved up to the Primera B Nacional. In 2005, he joined Arsenal de Sarandí, a team in Argentina's top league, the Argentine Primera División. He played there for two seasons.
Success in Austria
In June 2007, Sekagya signed a three-year contract. He joined Red Bull Salzburg in Austria. This team was the champion of the Austrian Football Bundesliga. He played his first Bundesliga game on July 11, 2007. Salzburg won that game 4–1 against SC Rheindorf Altach. He scored his first goal on July 22, 2007. This goal helped Salzburg get a 2–2 draw against FK Austria Wien.
Sekagya quickly became an important player for the club. In his first season, he played 34 league games. He scored three goals during that time. He stayed with Red Bull Salzburg for six seasons. He played in 165 league matches and scored 6 goals. During his time there, he helped the team win three Austrian Bundesliga titles. They also won one Austrian Cup.
Playing in the United States
On July 11, 2013, Sekagya moved to the United States. He joined the New York Red Bulls in MLS. He joined them for free after leaving Red Bull Salzburg. On August 4, 2013, Sekagya played his first game for New York. He started as a defensive midfielder. His team won 3–2 against Sporting Kansas City.
On October 27, 2013, Sekagya scored an important goal. It was in the last game of the season against the Chicago Fire. His goal helped his team win 5–2. This victory made the New York Red Bulls champions of the regular season. It was the club's first big trophy in 17 years. Sekagya retired from professional football in early 2015.
Playing for His Country
Sekagya also played for the Ugandan national football team. He was the team's captain for some time. He played 8 games and scored one goal in the qualifiers for the 2006 FIFA World Cup. He also played 3 games and scored a goal in the qualifiers for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Coaching Career
After he stopped playing football, Sekagya became a coach. He joined the coaching staff of the New York Red Bulls. On July 2, 2022, Sekagya was named the temporary head coach. He coached the Red Bulls' USL Championship team, New York Red Bulls II.
