The Famous Iced VoVo Biscuit
A Sweet History
The Iced VoVo has been around for a long time. The name was first officially registered in 1906. What's really cool is that this biscuit has stayed almost exactly the same for over 100 years! Its size and recipe haven't changed. Arnott's, the company that makes them, is now owned by an American company.
A Prime Minister's Favorite?
In 2007, something funny happened with the Iced VoVo. On November 24, the Australian Prime Minister at the time, Kevin Rudd, won an election. In his speech, he jokingly told his team to have a strong cup of tea with an Iced VoVo before getting to work.
This light-hearted mention made Iced VoVo sales go way up! People suddenly wanted to try them. Because of this, Arnott's sent a whole shipping pallet of biscuits to the Prime Minister's office. This office is in Parliament House in Canberra, Australia's capital city.
Similar Biscuits Around the World
Did you know there's a biscuit like the Iced VoVo in other places? In Ireland, a company called Jacob's has sold a similar biscuit called Mikado since 1888. The main difference is that Mikado has pink marshmallow on top instead of pink fondant.
