Idafe Rock is a famous natural stone pillar found in the beautiful Caldera de Taburiente National Park. This park is located on the island of La Palma, which is part of the Canary Islands in Spain.

Idafe Rock: A Special Place

Idafe Rock isn't just any rock; it's a very important landmark with a rich history. It stands tall in a stunning natural park, attracting visitors from all over the world. Its unique shape and location make it a true wonder of nature.

The Ancient Guanches and Idafe

Long ago, the Guanches lived on the Canary Islands. They were the native people, similar to the Berbers from North Africa. The Guanches deeply respected and worshipped Idafe Rock. They believed it was a special connection point between the sky and the earth, often called an "Axis Mundi." This meant they thought the rock was the center of their world.

Why Idafe Rock Was So Important

The Guanches had a strong belief that if Idafe Rock ever fell, terrible disasters would happen to their world. To prevent this, they performed special ceremonies. They would bring offerings, like parts of animals, and chant together. They would ask, "Iguida iguan Idafe?" which meant, "Do they say that Idafe will fall?" Then, everyone would respond, "Que guerte iguan taro," meaning, "Give it what you have brought and it will not fall!" This shows how much they valued and protected this natural wonder.
