Dedication St John the Baptist

The Church of San Juan is a special old building. You can find it in Alevia, a small village in Asturias, Spain. This church was first built a very long time ago, in the late 1300s. Today, it mostly looks like a Baroque style church. But if you look closely, you can still see parts from its original Gothic design.

A Look Back in Time

The Church of San Juan started its life in the late 14th century. This means it was built around the 1300s. Over many years, the church was changed and updated. This is why it now has a mix of styles. The main part of the church, called the nave, still shows its Gothic roots.

What the Church Looks Like

The church has a Gothic nave. This is the long central part where people sit. On one side, there is a porch. This is like a covered entrance area. The church also has two chapels on its north side. These are smaller rooms used for prayer. The Baroque style added grand decorations and a sense of drama to the building.
