Igor Emilievich Kio (born Igor Emilievich Hirschfeld-Renard) (13 March 1944 – 30 August 2006) was a famous Russian illusionist. He performed amazing magic tricks with the Russian State Circus (Росгосцирк). Igor was the son of the legendary magician Emil Kio (1894-1965). He started working with his father when he was just 5 years old. By 1960, he was already taking over his father's act. After his father passed away in 1965, Igor continued the family tradition. He performed his incredible magic shows across the Soviet Union (and later, Russia) and around the world for many years.

Early Life and Family Connections

Igor Kio was born into a family of talented circus performers. His father, Emil Kio, was one of the most famous magicians of his time. Growing up, Igor learned the secrets of illusion from the best. This early start helped him become a master of magic himself.

In 1962, Igor had a very short marriage to Galina Brezhneva. She was the daughter of Leonid Brezhnev, a very powerful leader in the Soviet Union. The marriage lasted only nine days before it was quickly ended. Later, in 1966, Igor married Yolanta Olkhovikova. She was also a circus artist from a well-known Russian circus family. They divorced in 1974. Yolanta later married Igor's brother, Emil Kio Jr., who was also a famous illusionist. Igor's third wife was Viktoria Ivanovna, a dancer in his show. They married in 1977 and had a daughter named Viktoria.

A Star of Russian Entertainment

Igor Kio was not just a circus performer. He often appeared on television, bringing his magic to many homes. In the 1980s, he had a special New Year's Day program every year. He also worked as a TV presenter. In 1966, he was featured in a Soviet film called Девочка на шаре ("The Girl On The Rolling Globe"). Igor Kio became a major star in Russian entertainment.

Awards and Recognition

Igor Kio was a respected member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians. He received many international awards for his incredible magic acts. In 1980, the Soviet Government honored him with a special title. He was named People's Artist of the Soviet Russian Federative Republic. This was a very high honor for an artist.

His Book: Illusions Without Illusions

In 1999, Igor Kio shared his life story in a book. It was called Иллюзии без иллюзий, which means "Illusions without illusions". The book gave readers a peek behind the curtain of his magical life. Igor Kio passed away in August 2006 at the age of 62. He left behind a legacy of wonder and magic.
