Ika Peyron's Early Life and Music
Ika Peyron was adopted by a merchant named Anton Asp. He wanted her to have a good job and made sure she got a great education. Mr. Asp hoped Ika would become a doctor, but her heart was set on music from a very young age.
Becoming a Musician
Ika studied to become a pianist in Stockholm. She learned from many great teachers. Some of her teachers included Louise Engström, Ivar Hallström, Johan van Boom, Emil Sjögren, and Anton Andersen.
She tried to write her own music, but at first, she stopped. This was because it was hard for women to be taken seriously as composers back then.
A Composer's Journey
In 1865, Ika married Ludvig Peyron, who was a merchant and a politician. For the next ten years, she focused on raising her sons.
Returning to Music
By the late 1870s, her sons were older. Also, people's ideas about women composers had started to change. This gave Ika Peyron a chance to follow her musical dreams again.
From the 1880s, Ika Peyron spent all her time composing. She also taught music and performed concerts. She played at theatre chapels and for the Ladies' Society Nya Idun. Through her hard work, she became a respected composer and musician.
