Ilana Glazer (born April 12, 1987) is an American comedian, actor, writer, and producer. She is best known for co-creating and starring in the TV show Broad City with her friend Abbi Jacobson. This popular show was first a web series before becoming a hit on Comedy Central. Ilana was nominated twice for the Critics' Choice Television Award for Best Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in Broad City. She also acted in the 2017 movie Rough Night and released her first stand-up comedy special, The Planet Is Burning, in 2020. In 2022, she won a Tony Award for Best Musical as a producer for the Broadway show A Strange Loop.

Early Life
Ilana Glazer was born in New York City, New York. Her parents, Sandi and Larry Glazer, worked in insurance and finance. She grew up in St. James, New York, on Long Island, in a Reform Jewish family. Her brother, Eliot Glazer, is also a producer, writer, and actor. They have worked together on shows like Broad City, where he played her character's brother.
Ilana studied psychology and graduated from New York University in 2009.

Ilana began taking comedy classes at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in 2006. For several years, she performed improv and stand-up comedy all around New York City.

How the Show Began
In 2009, Ilana and her friend Abbi Jacobson started making a web series called Broad City. They played funny versions of themselves. The web series became very popular and got attention from big magazines and newspapers.
Famous comedian Amy Poehler noticed their show. She met with Ilana and Abbi to help them create a TV show based on their web series. Amy even appeared in the final episode of the web series!
In 2011, a TV channel called FX bought the idea for the show, with Amy Poehler as a producer. However, FX decided not to make the show. So, Ilana and Abbi then took their idea to Comedy Central, which decided to buy the script and order a pilot episode. Broad City aired from 2014 to 2019 and became a huge success.
Movies and Other Projects
Ilana Glazer has also starred in several movies. In 2013, she was in the independent film How to Follow Strangers. She also appeared in the 2015 movie The Night Before. In 2017, she acted alongside Scarlett Johansson and Kate McKinnon in the comedy Rough Night.
Ilana also helped write and produce the horror movie False Positive, which came out in 2021. In 2024, she co-wrote and starred in the movie Babes.
Besides acting, Ilana released her first stand-up comedy special, The Planet Is Burning, in 2020 on Amazon Prime. In 2022, she was part of the main cast for the Apple TV+ mystery comedy series The Afterparty.
Activism
Ilana Glazer is also involved in activism. In 2016, she started a platform called Generator Collective with Glennis Meagher. This platform encourages women to run for office and promotes general participation in democracy and political discussions.
Personal Life
After college, Ilana Glazer was roommates with comedian Rachel Bloom in Brooklyn. In February 2017, Ilana married her longtime boyfriend, David Rooklin, who is a scientist. They welcomed their daughter in July 2021.
