Rachel Leah Bloom (born April 3, 1987) is a talented American actress, comedian, singer, writer, and producer. She is most famous for creating and starring as Rebecca Bunch in the musical comedy TV show Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (2015–2019). Her role in the show earned her many awards, including a Golden Globe Award and a Primetime Emmy Award.
Rachel has also appeared in movies like The Angry Birds Movie 2 (2019) and Trolls World Tour (2020). She wrote a book called I Want To Be Where The Normal People Are, which came out in 2020. Her comedy show, Rachel Bloom: Death, Let Me Do My Special, was released on Netflix in October 2024.

Early Life and Education
Rachel Bloom was born on April 3, 1987, in Los Angeles County, California. She grew up in Manhattan Beach, California. Her mom, Shelli, is a musician, and her dad, Alan, is a lawyer. Rachel is Jewish.
She went to public schools in Manhattan Beach, including Mira Costa High School. There, she was very active in the school's drama program. In 2009, Rachel graduated from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts with a degree in Drama. While at NYU, she led the school's main sketch comedy group, Hammerkatz. After college, Rachel performed at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York and Los Angeles.
Career Highlights
While in college, Rachel worked as an intern for the TV show Saturday Night Live. In 2012, she tried out for the show, but she didn't get the part. Her audition video included a funny impression of Katharine Hepburn doing the voice for Bugs Bunny!
Rachel released her first musical comedy album, Please Love Me, in May 2013. She also made a second album with her husband, Dan Gregor, and Jack Dolgen. This album, released in November 2013, was a funny take on Chanukah and included songs like "Chanukah Honey". Rachel also voiced Princess Peach in the song "Luigi's Ballad" for the band Starbomb in 2013.
Rachel also worked as a writer for TV shows such as Allen Gregory and Robot Chicken.
In 2015, Rachel filmed a TV pilot with writer Aline Brosh McKenna and director Marc Webb. This show was later picked up by The CW network and became Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. It was a musical comedy series that started in October 2015 and ran until 2019. The show was loved by critics and featured many musical numbers.
Rachel also acted in the movie Most Likely to Murder (2018), which was directed by her husband, Dan Gregor.
In November 2020, Rachel released her book, I Want To Be Where The Normal People Are. The book talks about her own experiences with feeling anxious and having OCD. It also shares her experiences with bullying.
In 2022, Rachel co-starred in the Hulu show Reboot (2022 TV series). She played a character named Hannah. The show was nominated for a Critics Choice Award for Best Comedy Series. Rachel was also nominated for an HCA TV Award for Best Supporting Actress.
In 2022, Rachel started touring with a new stand-up and musical show called Death, Let Me Do My Show. It was very popular and later ran off-Broadway in New York City. A special version of this show, Rachel Bloom: Death, Let Me Do My Special, premiered on Netflix in October 2024.
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend was a musical comedy-drama series that Rachel Bloom co-created and starred in. It premiered on October 12, 2015, and became a very popular show.
On January 10, 2016, Rachel won a Golden Globe Award for her role in Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. The next week, she won the Critics' Choice Television Award for Best Actress in a Comedy Series. Personal Life
In 2015, Rachel married her boyfriend, Dan Gregor. He is a writer, actor, producer, and director. They have a daughter, who was born in March 2020.
Rachel has openly talked about her experiences with depression, anxiety, and OCD. She shares her story to help others understand mental health.
Rachel has received several awards for her work and for supporting important causes. In 2016, she received the Visionary Award from the East West Players. This award honors people who help bring attention to the Asian Pacific American community through their art. Her show Crazy Ex-Girlfriend was praised for casting an Asian-American male in a main role, which helped break stereotypes.
She has also supported organizations like NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) and the Human Rights Campaign. In 2018, she hosted events for Teen Line and the Girls Rock Camp Foundation. In 2024, she signed a letter asking for better representation of people with disabilities in Hollywood.
In June 2020, Rachel participated in the #ShareTheMicNow Instagram project. This project allowed Black women to take over the Instagram accounts of white women with many followers.
