Ilbert II de Lacy (died 1141) was a powerful English nobleman. He was known as the Baron of Pontefract and also the Lord of Bowland. His family, the de Lacys, were very influential during his time.

A Nobleman's Early Life
Ilbert was the oldest son of Robert de Lacy and Maud de Perche. His family was involved in important political events from early on.
Family Challenges and Exile
Ilbert and his father, Robert, supported Robert Curthose. Robert Curthose was the older brother of Henry I. They believed Robert Curthose should be the King of England. However, Henry I became king instead. Because of their support for Robert Curthose, King Henry I took away all the Lacy family's lands. He also sent Robert and Ilbert out of England. This meant they had to live in exile for a few years.
Return to England
After some time, Robert and Ilbert were allowed to come back to England. King Henry I returned their lands and titles to them. This allowed the de Lacy family to regain their important position in society.
Supporting King Stephen
Later, Ilbert became a strong supporter of King Stephen. This was during a difficult time in English history known as the Anarchy. The Anarchy was a civil war where different groups fought over who should be king.
Bravery in Battle
Ilbert was known for his courage and skill in battle. He fought bravely at the Battle of the Standard in 1138. This was an important battle where English forces fought against a Scottish invasion.
Capture at Lincoln

Ilbert II de Lacy died without having any children of his own. His titles and lands were then passed on to his brother, Henry de Lacy.

Ilbert's wife was Alice de Gant. She was the daughter of Walter de Gant and Mathilde de Penthièvre. After Ilbert's death, Alice remarried Roger de Mowbray.
