Ildefonso Puigdendolas Ponce de Leon (born in Girona in 1876 – died near Illescas on October 31, 1936) was a Spanish military officer. He served the Republic during the Spanish Civil War. A military officer is someone who holds a position of authority in the armed forces.

In 1931, he was a colonel in the Infantry in Seville. He worked as an inspector for the security forces there. In 1934, he was moved to Malaga. In July 1936, he led his troops to victory against rebel forces. These battles took place in Alcala de Henares and Guadalajara.

Role in the Spanish Civil War

Early Battles

After his victories, Colonel Puigdendolas commanded the Loyalist militia. The Loyalists were people who supported the Republic during the war. He led them in the Battle of Badajoz in 1936. This was a very important battle.

Escape and Return

After the Battle of Badajoz, he had to escape to Portugal. He later returned to the area controlled by the Spanish Republican Army. This army fought for the Republic.

Death in Battle

Colonel Puigdendolas continued to serve his country. During the battle of Seseña, he faced a very tough situation. He was killed while trying to keep his soldiers fighting during a difficult moment in the battle.
