How This Cake Got Its Name
This famous cake has an interesting story behind its name. It all started with an Italian immigrant named Cayetano Brenna.
The Sweet Beginning
Cayetano Brenna arrived in Argentina in 1900. A few years later, in 1904, he bought a shop in Buenos Aires. This shop was on a busy corner where Callao Avenue and Rivadavia Avenue meet. After working hard, he opened his own sweet shop, the Confitería del Molino, in 1917.
A Name with History
At the time, there were big changes happening in Russia, including a major political shift and the end of the Romanov royal family. To remember these important events and honor the former monarchs, Mr. Brenna decided to name his new, special cake "Imperial Ruso," which means "Imperial Russian."
