María Magdalena Nile del Río (born December 26, 1906 – died August 22, 2003) was a talented singer and movie actress from Argentina. She was much better known by her stage name, Imperio Argentina. Later in her life, in 1999, she became a citizen of Spain.
María Magdalena Nile del Río was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Her father, Antonio Nile, was a guitar player from Gibraltar. Her mother, Rosario del Río, was from a town called Monda in Spain. María started performing on stage in Argentina when she was young. At that time, her stage name was Pettit Imperio.
Her biggest successes happened after she moved to Spain. There, she changed her stage name to Imperio Argentina. This new name was a way to honor her home country, Argentina. In Spain, she starred in many movies. She also appeared often on television and radio shows. She became a Spanish citizen in 1999.
Imperio Argentina's Later Years and Passing
In January 2003, Imperio Argentina had a health issue and was taken to a hospital in Malaga, Spain. She passed away in August 2003 in Benalmádena, which is in the same province where her mother was born. She was 97 years old when she died. Imperio Argentina had two children.
