Monda is a small town and a municipality in southern Spain. It is located in the province of Málaga, which is part of the Andalusia region. Monda is nestled near the beautiful mountains of Sierra Blanca and Sierra de las Nieves.
The town is about 44 kilometers (27 miles) from Málaga, the capital city of the province. It sits at an elevation of 427 meters (1,401 feet) above sea level. As of 2018, Monda has a population of around 2,500 people. People from Monda are called Mondeños.

Monda's Historic Castle
Monda is home to its very own castle, known as Castillo de Monda. This castle was built on the remains of an old Arab fortress called "Al-Mundat". This fortress dates all the way back to the 9th century!
What's Left of the Old Fortress?
Even today, you can still see parts of the original Arab fortress. One of its towers is still standing, and you can find pieces of the old foundations inside the castle. Today, the Castillo de Monda has been turned into a hotel.
Exploring the Town of Monda
Monda has a charming central square called "Plaza de la Ermita". It's a great place to experience the local life.
The Old Public Laundry
One interesting historical spot is the Lavadero de la Jaula. This was a public laundry area with a roof, built in the 16th century. Back then, it was a very important place for people to meet and chat while doing their laundry.
Modern Education in Monda
Monda is also home to the Marbella Design Academy. This school teaches students about design, bringing a modern touch to the town.
The Battle of Munda: A Local Legend
There's a local story that the famous Battle of Munda happened near Monda. This was a very important battle between the Roman leader Julius Caesar and the supporters of Pompey.
Was Monda the Real Battle Site?
While Julius Caesar did visit the Costa del Sol area, historians believe the actual Battle of Munda probably didn't happen in Monda. It's still a cool local legend though!
Monda's Olive Oil Mill
El Molino de Monda is an old mill in Monda. This mill still makes local olive oil today. It's a great example of how traditions continue in the town.
