Her Life
Inés Rodríguez Girón was born to Rodrigo González Girón and his second wife, Teresa López de Haro. Her father was the Lord of Frechilla. Her mother's parents were Lope Díaz II de Haro and Urraca Alfonso. Urraca was the daughter of King Alfonso IX of León.
Inés married Infante Philip of Castile around 1263 or 1264. This happened after his first wife, Christina of Norway, passed away. By marrying Philip, Inés became the Lady of Valdeporchena, Piedrahita, and Valdecorneja.
Inés and Philip did not have any children together. Infanta Inés died in Seville in 1265. After her death, her husband Infante Philip married for a third time to Leonor Rodríguez de Castro.
Her Burial Place
Inés Rodríguez Girón is buried in the Church of Santa María la Blanca. This church is located in Villalcázar de Sirga. Her husband, Infante Philip, is also buried next to her. He died in 1274, before his third wife.
Their remains were first placed in two tombs in the church's choir. Today, both tombs can be found in the chapel of Santiago.
Her Tomb
The tomb holding Inés Rodríguez Girón's remains is smaller than her husband's. Both tombs were made at the same time, showing a similar artistic style.
Her tomb has sculptures only on its sides. The head and foot sections are plain. On the lid of the tomb, there is a statue of Inés. She is shown lying down, with her head resting on three pillows. This is just like the statue on her husband's tomb.
