Inah Canabarro Lucas was a Brazilian nun who lived a very long life. She was born on June 8, 1908, and passed away on April 30, 2025. She was a member of the Teresian Sisters, a group of Catholic nuns. For a time, she was known as the oldest person in the world. She was also the oldest living nun.

Her Life Story
Early Life and Family
Inah Canabarro Lucas was born in São Francisco de Assis, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Her parents were João Antonio Lucas and Mariana Canabarro. She had a younger brother named Rube. He later became a Lieutenant Colonel in the Brazilian Air Force.
Inah was the great-granddaughter of General David Canabarro. He was a famous general who fought in a war called the Ragamuffin War. When Inah was a child, she was very thin. Many people thought she might not live to be an adult. But she proved them wrong!
Her Work as a Teacher
Sister Inah worked as a kindergarten teacher. She taught at Santa Tereza de Jesus High School. One of her students was João Figueiredo. He later became the 30th president of Brazil. Imagine teaching someone who would become president!
Milestones and Recognition
Sister Inah lived for many years. When she turned 110, Pope Francis sent her a special message. This was a big honor.
She became the oldest person living in Brazil in 2022. This happened after Antonia da Santa Cruz passed away. In May 2023, her local church group celebrated her 115th birthday.
Sister Inah became the oldest living person in the world in December 2024. This was after Tomiko Itooka passed away.
Her Passing
Inah Canabarro Lucas passed away on April 30, 2025. She was 116 years and 326 days old. She died at a shelter run by the Teresian Sisters in Porto Alegre, Brazil. After her death, Ethel Caterham from the United Kingdom became the world's oldest living person.
Sister Inah was the second-oldest nun in history. Only Lucile Randon lived longer than her.
