Where Indian Creek Flows

Indian Creek starts its journey in the southern part of Texas County, Missouri. Its very beginning, called the source, is found south of Missouri Route 17, which is a road near the town of Yukon.

From its source, the creek flows mainly towards the west and northwest. As it travels, it passes underneath another important road, U. S. Route 63. This happens south of the town of Houston.

Finally, Indian Creek joins the Big Piney River southwest of Houston. This is where its waters mix with the larger river.

How Indian Creek Got Its Name

The name "Indian Creek" has a special history. It was named after an old settlement of the Shawnee people. The Shawnee are a Native American tribe, and their settlement was located close to where the creek flows. This name helps us remember the history of the land and the people who lived there long ago.
