Indian Creek (Miami Beach) facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Indian Creek is a cool waterway in Miami Beach, Florida, United States. It's a mix of a natural river and a canal built by people.

It starts as a man-made canal where Biscayne Bay meets Lincoln Road. From there, it flows along Dade Boulevard, acting like a border between South Beach and the rest of Miami Beach.

Where Indian Creek Flows

At 24th Street, the canal opens up into a natural waterway. It keeps going north through the city, passing by Allison Island. After Allison Island, it opens up into Biscayne Bay again. The creek continues until 71st Street, where it joins with the Normandy and Tatum Waterways. At this point, it's no longer called Indian Creek.

Indian Creek Island

Near the creek, there's a very private island called Indian Creek Island. It has about 40 homes right on the water. The island also has its own 18-hole golf course. This makes it a very exclusive and quiet place.

Indian Creek Drive

If you're driving south on State Road A1A in Miami Beach, you'll notice that the road is called Indian Creek Drive. This name is used wherever the road runs right next to the creek.
