Indian Mound Village is a small, unincorporated community in Seminole County, Florida, United States. It is located right by the St. Johns River.

What's in a Name?

This community gets its name from an "Indian mound" that was once nearby. An Indian mound is a special hill or pile of earth built by Native American people. These mounds were often used for burials or important ceremonies.

The mound near Indian Mound Village was likely built by the Timucuan people. The Timucua were a large group of Native Americans who lived in Florida and Georgia hundreds of years ago.

Sadly, the original burial mounds in this area are no longer fully intact. This means they have been changed or damaged over time. Because of this, it's harder for archaeologists (scientists who study ancient cultures) to learn much from them.

A Look Back in Time

Early Days

The land where Indian Mound Village now stands was first divided into 116 smaller pieces in 1926. This was done by a company called the Davey-Winston Organization Inc., which was based in Sanford, Florida.

Modern Services

Many years later, in 1967, the county government approved a plan to bring fresh water to the community. This meant homes in Indian Mound Village could get clean water through pipes.
