Indian Well State Park is a fun outdoor spot in Shelton, Connecticut. It covers about 153 acres of land. The park sits right on the west side of Lake Housatonic, which is a big lake formed from the Housatonic River.
One of the most beautiful parts of the park is its amazing 15-foot waterfall. This waterfall has a cool splash pool at the bottom, perfect for enjoying the scenery. The park is looked after by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.
Park History
Indian Well State Park was created a long time ago, in 1928. That year, the State Park and Forest Commission bought 150 acres of land. This land included almost two miles of riverfront along the Housatonic River.
Later, in the 1990s, the park became a popular spot for boat races. The New Haven Rowing Club started holding their yearly regattas (rowing competitions) here.
Fun Things to Do
There are lots of fun things to do at Indian Well State Park! You can go for a hike on the blue-blazed Paugussett Trail. This trail runs all the way through the park from north to south.
If you like being on the water, there's a special boat launch. You can use it to get onto Lake Housatonic. This lake is known for fishing, especially for different kinds of bass, like smallmouth and largemouth bass. You might also catch white catfish, white perch, yellow perch, American eel, sunfish, and carp!
When it's warm, you can go swimming in the lake. Lifeguards are usually on duty to keep everyone safe. The park also has nice areas where you can have a picnic with your family and friends.
