Industry is a small town located in Austin County, Texas, United States. It sits where State Highway 159 and Farm to Market Road 109 meet. In 2020, about 268 people lived there.
Industry is famous for being the very first permanent German settlement in Texas. Friedrich Ernst founded the town in 1831. Because of this, Industry is known as the "Cradle of German Settlement in Texas." The community got its name because the first people who settled there were very hardworking and "industrious."
Geography of Industry
Industry is located at coordinates 29.967368°N, 96.497089°W. It's found at the crossing of State Highway 159, which runs east-west, and Farm to Market Road 109, which runs north-south.
- The county seat, Bellville, is about 15.6 miles (25.1 km) to the east-southeast on Highway 159.
- Fayetteville is about 12.6 miles (20.3 km) to the west-southwest on the same highway.
- New Ulm is about 5.8 miles (9.3 km) south on FM 109.
- If you travel about 13.3 miles (21.4 km) north and northeast on FM 109, you'll reach State Highway 36 in Brenham.
West End Elementary School is also located within the town's boundaries.
