History of Bellville
How Bellville Got Its Name
Bellville was named after Thomas B. Bell. He was one of the very first colonists brought to Texas by Stephen F. Austin. Thomas and his brother gave land for the new county seat. This happened in 1846, after people voted for a new location. Before Bellville, the main town for the county was San Felipe. But that changed after the war for independence.
