Inglis is a small, unincorporated community located in Columbia County, Oregon, in the United States. An unincorporated community is a place that doesn't have its own local government, like a city or town. Instead, it's managed by the county it's in.
History of Inglis
Inglis was once a busy little spot, especially because of its post office and railroad station.
The Inglis Post Office
The Inglis post office first opened its doors on September 30, 1902. It was named after the very first person to be in charge of the mail there, a man named John E. Inglis.
The post office didn't stay open continuously. It closed down in 1910. But then, it reopened a few years later in 1914. Finally, it closed for good in 1918.
The Railroad Station
Besides the post office, Inglis also had a railroad station. This station was known as Inglis Station. Railroads were very important back then for travel and moving goods.
