Early Life
Where Ingrid Grew Up
Ingrid Hoffmann was born in Barranquilla, Colombia. She spent her childhood in Cali, Colombia, and on the island of Curaçao. Her father, Billy Hoffmann, was a pilot.
Learning to Cook
Ingrid's mother, Yolanda Ibarnegaray, was a talented chef. She trained at a famous cooking school called Le Cordon Bleu. Yolanda worked in restaurants and also did catering. Ingrid started cooking with her mother when she was very young.
Ingrid's Career
From Acting to Fashion
Before becoming a chef, Ingrid worked as a model and an actress. By the time she was 20, she had appeared in 16 telenovelas, which are like TV soap operas. In 1985, she moved to Miami, Florida. There, she opened a fancy clothing store called La Capricieuse. It was in a cool area of Miami called Coconut Grove.
Opening a Restaurant
Ingrid then decided to open a restaurant in Miami. She partnered with her mother and two other people. Their restaurant, Rocca, opened in January 1993. It was special because it was the first restaurant in Miami to let people cook their own food at the table on hot lava rocks. Rocca quickly became a popular spot for celebrities.
Becoming a TV Chef
In 2002, Ingrid hosted a cooking part on a local TV show in Miami. This led to her getting a regular cooking spot on a Spanish morning show called Despierta America. Her own cooking show, Delicioso, started in 2005 on DirecTV Para Todos. Today, Delicioso is shown on Univision's cable channel, Galavision.
The Food Network noticed Ingrid after she appeared on the TV show Martha in 2006. Her show Simply Delicioso then started on the Food Network in July 2007.
Other Projects
Ingrid Hoffmann also writes a cooking column every month for People en Español magazine. She has her own line of cookware called Simply Delicioso with Ingrid Hoffmann, made by T-Fal. She also has kitchen tools and accessories by Furi, which are sold on Home Shopping Network.
