What is IET Lucknow?
IET Lucknow is a college where students learn about engineering and technology. It is fully supported by the government of Uttar Pradesh. The college is managed by a special committee from Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University.
How IET Lucknow Started
The government of Uttar Pradesh started IET in 1984. Their goal was to provide good technical education. The college was first connected to the University of Lucknow until the year 2000. After that, it joined Uttar Pradesh Technical University. Since 2015, it has been part of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University.
IET Lucknow is an independent institute. It is recognized by AICTE and has received special accreditation from NBA. This means its courses meet high quality standards.
Early Days and Courses
When IET Lucknow opened in November 1984, it was part of Lucknow University's engineering faculty. It first offered a B.Tech. degree in three subjects. These were Computer Science, Electrical, and Electronics. Within a year, two more subjects were added: Civil and Mechanical. Later, Information Technology and Chemical engineering were also included. The institute also offers master's degrees like MBA, M.TECH., and MCA.
Building the Campus
The college campus was built on a 100-acre plot of land. This land was bought from the Lucknow Development Authority. Many buildings were constructed, including an academic block and hostels. There are eight hostels for boys and four for girls. About 70 homes for staff were also built. The local authority helped with roads, electricity, and drainage.
The first Director, Professor Suresh Chandra, started his work on June 26, 1984. Teachers began joining from October 11, 1984.
Student Life and Accommodation
IET Lucknow is a fully residential college. This means students live on campus in hostels. There are eight hostels for boys and four for girls. They can house around 2500 students.
Hostel Facilities
Each hostel has its own dining hall, called a mess. Students help manage these messes. Hostels provide many facilities for students. These include televisions, water purifiers, and water coolers. They also have geysers for hot water and places for indoor games.
Some of the hostel names are Vishveshwaraiya Bhawan-A, Raman Bhawan-A, and Gargi Bhavan. A new hostel for girls, Maitraiyee Hostel, is also available.
Career Opportunities and Support
The institute has a special team to help students find jobs. This team is called the placement cell. It is led by Dr. Arun Kumar Tiwari.
Industry Connections
In 1999, the college received support from the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. This helped them create an Industry Institute Partnership Cell. This cell helps connect students with companies. The placement cell has dedicated rooms for interviews and group discussions. It also has computer centers and presentation rooms. These facilities help recruiters find the best students.
