About IET Lucknow
IET Lucknow was started by the government of Uttar Pradesh in 1984. Its main goal was to provide good technical education. The government fully supports the institute financially. An executive committee from Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University manages the college.
The college is a residential campus. This means students can live there in hostels. From 1984 to 2000, it was connected to the University of Lucknow. After that, it joined Uttar Pradesh Technical University. Today, it is a part of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University. The institute is recognized by AICTE and has special accreditation from NBA.
How IET Lucknow Started
IET Lucknow opened its doors in November 1984. It began as the Faculty of Engineering and Technology of Lucknow University. At first, it offered a B.Tech. degree in three subjects: Computer Science, Electrical, and Electronics.
Within just one year, two more subjects were added: Civil and Mechanical Engineering. Later, the college also started teaching Information Technology and Chemical Engineering. Besides these, IET Lucknow also offers master's degrees like MBA, M.TECH., and MCA.
The campus was built on a large piece of land, about 100 acres. This land was bought from the Lucknow Development Authority. Many buildings were constructed, including academic blocks, hostels, and staff homes. Local authorities also helped with roads, electricity, and drainage.
The first Director, Prof. Suresh Chandra, started his work in June 1984. Teachers began joining the college in October 1984.
Life at IET Lucknow
IET Lucknow is a residential campus. This means students can live in hostels right on campus. There are eight hostels for boys and four for girls. Together, they can house about 2500 students.
Each hostel has its own dining hall, called a mess. Students help manage these messes. The hostels also have TVs, water purifiers, water coolers, and geysers. Students can play indoor games in their hostels too. Some of the hostel names include Vishveshwaraiya Bhawan, Raman Bhawan, Bhabha Hostel, and Gargi Bhavan.
Helping Students Find Jobs
The institute has a special team called the placement cell. This team helps students find jobs after they finish their studies. Dr. Arun Kumar Tiwari leads this cell.
In 1999, the college received support from the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. This helped them create a strong link between the college and different industries. The placement cell has special rooms for interviews, group discussions, and presentations. This makes it easy for companies to recruit students.
