Irmgard Neumann (born Pulß) was an important political figure in East Germany. She was born on October 16, 1925, and passed away on February 22, 1989. She was a member of the State Council of East Germany, which was like a group of leaders for the country.

Early Life and Work

Irmgard Neumann was born in the city of Hamburg, Germany. After finishing her basic schooling, which was called Volksschule in German, she worked helping out in people's homes.

Becoming a Farmer

After World War II ended, a new country was formed called the German Democratic Republic, also known as East Germany. Irmgard Neumann became a farmer there. She worked on a collective farm near a town called Teterow. A collective farm is where many farmers work together on land owned by the community or state, sharing the work and the harvest.

Political Career

Irmgard Neumann became involved in politics in East Germany. She joined a political group called the Democratic Farmers' Party of Germany (DBD) in 1955. This party was part of a larger group called the National Front.

Roles in Government

From 1958, she was a member of the local government in the Bezirk Neubrandenburg area. A Bezirk was like a district or region in East Germany. In 1960, she joined the leadership team of the Democratic Women's League of Germany, an organization for women.

Joining the State Council

Later in 1960, Irmgard Neumann was chosen to be a member of the State Council. This was a very important position, as the State Council acted as the head of state for East Germany. She served on the State Council until November 1963. After this, she took on a leading role within the Democratic Farmers' Party of Germany (DBD), which she held until 1977.

Awards and Legacy

In 1966, Irmgard Neumann received an important award called the Patriotic Order of Merit. This award was given to people who had done great things for East Germany. She passed away in 1989.
