Irrunytju Arts Centre facts for kids
Irrunytju Arts is an art centre for Indigenous Australians located in the community of Irrunytju (also known as Wingellina). This community is in Western Australia, close to where Western Australia, the Northern Territory, and South Australia meet. It's about 720 kilometers (447 miles) southwest of Alice Springs.
The area around Irrunytju is very dry and remote, like a desert. The artists and their families often travel across this land, which holds deep meaning for them. They hunt for food, gather plants for bush medicine, and collect grass and seeds to make beautiful basket weaving and jewellery.

Irrunytju Arts is a special place where Aboriginal artists can create and share their artwork. It helps keep their culture and stories alive through painting and other art forms.
The Beginning of the Art Centre
The Irrunytju art centre officially opened in 2001. Even before the centre was built, some people in the community were already painting. But once the centre opened, many more community members started coming every day. They came to paint their tjukurpa stories. Tjukurpa refers to the important creation stories and laws of their ancestors.
