Isabel Nasrin Abedi (born March 3, 1967) is a German-Iranian author who writes exciting books for children and young adults. She is also a copywriter and a translator. Isabel Abedi is well-known for her book Whisper, which won a big award, and for her popular Lola book series.

Isabel Abedi was born in Munich, Germany, on March 3, 1967. She grew up in a city called Düsseldorf. Isabel wrote her very first book when she was still in elementary school. She wrote it for her mother, who also worked with words as a copywriter.
Isabel's Favorite Books
When Isabel was growing up, she loved reading many classic children's books. Some of her favorites included The Brothers Lionheart by Astrid Lindgren and The Neverending Story by Michael Ende. She also enjoyed Mary Poppins by P.L. Travers and The Famous Five by Enid Blyton.
Life Before Writing
After finishing high school, Isabel Abedi spent a year in Los Angeles. There, she worked as an au pair, helping with children, and also as an intern for movies. Today, Isabel lives in Hamburg with her partner, who is a musician from Brazil, and their two daughters.
Isabel Abedi's Writing Journey
Isabel Abedi started making up stories when her first child had trouble falling asleep. These bedtime stories later became the books she publishes today. Her books have become very popular and have been translated into 37 different languages around the world. Besides writing her own books, Isabel also translates books from German into English. She has translated works by authors like Amy Giles and Camryn Garrett.
For thirteen years, before becoming a full-time author, Isabel Abedi worked as a copywriter in Hamburg. This means she wrote texts for advertisements and other materials.
Whisper: A Mystery Novel
Isabel Abedi's first novel, Whisper, came out in June 2005. This book is about a girl who is on holiday with her mother. She starts to investigate a mystery inside their holiday home. During her investigation, she meets the ghost of a girl who lived there 30 years ago. Whisper was a big success and won the German Youth Book Prize in 2006.
Imago: A Journey to Another World
Her novel Imago was published in January 2006. This story is about a girl who gets a special invitation to travel to another world. Isabel Abedi has said that parts of Imago were inspired by her own life. The book tells the story of a girl who grew up without her father.
Lucian: Dreams and the Ocean
In 2008, Isabel Abedi released her novel Lucian. This book is about a girl who keeps having dreams about a mysterious boy. Isabel wrote Lucian while she was living in Venice Beach, and the ocean there inspired her writing. In 2010, Lucian won second place for the Landshuter Jugendbuchpreis. It was also nominated for Buchliebling, which is an Austrian book award.
The Popular Lola Series
The Lola series is one of Isabel Abedi's most famous works. The first book in the series was published in 2004. The series includes nine novels in total, with the last one coming out in 2014.
The Lola books were so popular that one of them was made into a movie in 2010. The film is called Hier Kommt Lola, which means "Here Comes Lola". Isabel Abedi even had a small role in the movie's final scene!
The Longest Night: A European Adventure
The Longest Night is Isabel Abedi's fifth novel for young adults. It was published in 2016. The story follows a 17-year-old girl who finds some mysterious sentences in a book her father wrote but never published. This discovery leads them on an exciting trip across Europe, ending up in Italy.
Isabel Abedi worked on this book for seven years. She wrote parts of it while staying in places like Chiusdino and Labastide Esparbairenque. In 2017, The Longest Night won the Golden Leslie award, which is a youth book prize chosen by students.
Forbidden World: A Castle Mystery
Isabel Abedi's novel Forbidden World was released in 2022. This book tells the story of a twelve-year-old boy and his sister. They find themselves held captive in a mysterious castle.
