Isabel Campoy was born on June 25, 1946, in Alicante, Spain. She is a well-known author who writes books for children, poetry, and educational materials. A main goal of her work is to help promote bilingual education, which means learning in two languages.
About Her Life
Isabel Campoy was born in Alicante, Spain. Her father was an English professor, and her mother was a tailor. When she was 16, Isabel came to the United States for a year as an exchange student. She lived in Trenton, Michigan, and attended high school there.
Later, she earned her degree in English Philology from the Complutense University of Madrid in 1973. She also took more classes at the University of Reading. Isabel then returned to the U.S. as a Fulbright Scholar to continue her studies at UCLA. A Fulbright Scholarship is a special award that helps students study abroad.
In 1981, she moved to the United States permanently. She worked as a senior editor for foreign languages at a publishing company called Houghton Mifflin in Boston. Besides writing, Campoy has also been part of many important groups. These include the San Francisco Public Library and Leap Frog.
In 2012, a group called the California Association of Bilingual Educators (CABE) created an award in her honor. It's called "The Isabel Campoy Teachership Award." In 2013, she became a Collaborating Member of the North American Academy of the Spanish Language. This means she helps with important work related to the Spanish language in North America. Today, Campoy lives in San Rafael, California.

Isabel Campoy has written over 150 books and other works. Her writing includes many different types of books. She writes children's literature, poetry, and textbooks for reading programs. She also writes books about teaching.
Her children's books and poems often show the rich culture of Latino people. They also share her strong belief in the power of change and fairness for everyone. Campoy often works with another author, Alma Flor Ada. Together, they write reading programs for big publishers like Harcourt School Publishers.
She also helped write Gateways to the Sun / Puertas al Sol with Alma Flor Ada. Isabel Campoy has also put together many collections of traditional stories, poems, and plays.
Campoy has also translated many books from English into Spanish. She has translated books for popular authors like Mo Willems, Gary Soto, and Mem Fox.
