Isabel Muñoz (born in 1951) is a famous Spanish photographer. She lives in Madrid, Spain.

Isabel Muñoz's Life and Photography Work

Isabel Muñoz was born in Barcelona, a city in Spain. She grew up in the Catalonia region.

When she was 20 years old, Isabel moved to Madrid. In 1979, she started studying photography at a place called Photocentro.

Her photos are mostly in black and white. She often takes pictures of people. She might focus on parts of the human body, or photograph bullfighters, dancers, or Warriors.

Isabel uses a special, old photography method called platinotype. This technique was used by photographers a long time ago, in the early 1800s. It makes photos look very high quality and gives them a unique texture.

Most of Muñoz's work is in black and white. However, she uses color when she explores topics about different cultures or social issues. For example, she has used color when photographing drag queens or ancient tribes.

In 2005, Isabel traveled to Ethiopia. There, she photographed different Tribes who decorate their bodies as a way to express themselves. Some of these tribes included the Surma, Nyangaton, Hammer, Banna, Bodi, Mursi, Karo, and Nuer.

In 2006, she visited El Salvador. She took photos of urban tribes and created works about violence. She also worked on a project called Nuesto Pequeno Mundo. For this project, she photographed children to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Isabel traveled to Iran, Syria, Turkey, and Iraq. She showed her work called El amor y el éxtasis at a photography festival called PHotoEspaña in 2010.

In Mexico, she exhibited photos from La Bestia. This project showed a train that crosses Mexico, packed with immigrants. These journeys are very dangerous for the people on board.

In 2015, Isabel started a new project. She decided to explore where humans come from by photographing great apes.
