Isabel Naftel (born in 1832, died in 1912) was a talented British artist. She was known for painting many different things. These included pictures of people (portraits), everyday scenes (genre paintings), and beautiful outdoor views (landscapes).

Isabel Naftel was born Isabel Oakley. She was the youngest of three daughters. Her father, Octavius Oakley, was also a famous artist from Derby.

Isabel's paintings were often shown in London during the Victorian era. This was a time when Queen Victoria ruled Britain (from 1837 to 1901). Isabel painted many landscapes of the English south coast and the Channel Islands.

Her Art Exhibitions

Isabel Naftel was very active in the art world. Between 1857 and 1891, she had 54 of her artworks shown to the public.

Ten of her paintings were displayed at the important Royal Academy. Some of these famous works included:

  • A Little Red Riding Hood (shown in 1862)
  • Musing (shown in 1869)
  • A Sark Cottage (shown in 1885)

She also had 13 artworks accepted by the Society of British Artists. Nine of her pieces were shown at the New Watercolour Society. Her art was also displayed at other well-known galleries, like the Grosvenor Gallery and the New Gallery.

Her Family Life

In 1853, Isabel married another artist named Paul Jacob Naftel. They had a daughter together, Maud Naftel. Maud also grew up to become a well-known artist, following in her parents' footsteps.
