Ishod Wair's Skateboarding Journey
Ishod Wair grew up in Bordentown, New Jersey. He started skateboarding when he was nine years old. As he got older, he spent more time skateboarding. He even chose it over other activities like basketball.
In 2009, when Ishod was 18, he went to the Tampa Am contest. This is a big event for amateur skateboarders in Tampa, Florida. He placed 18th out of 36 skaters in the semi-finals. Even though he didn't make it to the finals, this contest helped his career. He gave out special DVDs to potential sponsors.
After the Tampa Am, a company called Real Skateboards started giving Ishod free skateboards. This lasted for over a year. Then, they officially added him to their amateur team. In 2011, Real Skateboards made Ishod a professional skateboarder.
Awards and Achievements
In 2013, Thrasher magazine named Ishod Wair their Skater of the Year. This was a huge honor in the skateboarding world. He earned this title after releasing four amazing video parts.
In 2015, Ishod competed in his first Super Crown event. He finished in second place, beating many other top professionals. In 2016, he released his own special shoe with Nike. It was called the SB Dunk Low Pro "Ishod Wair." He has released more signature SB Dunks since then. In early 2022, Nike released a brand new signature shoe just for him, the Nike SB Ishod Wair.
Street League Skateboarding Success
Ishod Wair joined Street League Skateboarding (SLS) in 2012. This was after he became a professional for Real Skateboards. SLS is a major competition series for street skateboarding.
Since joining SLS, Ishod has landed tricks that earned him a "9 Club" score seven times. A 9 Club score means a trick was almost perfect. He has also made it to the finals four times in SLS events. Ishod's best year in SLS was 2014. He finished second at the first-ever Pro Open event. This was his highest finish in his career at that time. His great performance continued through 2014. He made it to the Super Crown World Championship and placed third.
