Early Life and Education
Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke was born on January 15, 1955. His parents were Senator Ayoola Adeleke and Esther Adeleke. He was born in Enugu State and spent his early childhood there. This was until the Nigerian civil war began.
He started his primary school at Christ Church School in Enugu. Later, he moved to Ibadan to continue his education. He finished his secondary school at Ogbomoso Grammar School. Isiaka Adeleke earned a Bachelor of Arts degree and a master's degree in public administration. He also held important positions, like being the chairman of the Governing Council for the Nigerian Export Promotion Council. He was also the Pro-chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council for the University of Calabar, Nigeria. A fun fact is that he was the uncle of the famous Nigerian musician, Davido.
Isiaka Adeleke's Political Journey

During a period known as the Nigerian Third Republic, Isiaka Adeleke decided to run for governor. This was for the newly created Osun State, which was formed from Oyo State. He was a member of the SDP, which was a very strong party in the state.
He won the election and became the first civilian governor of Osun State in 1992. As governor, he made some important decisions. He helped set up a polytechnic college in Iree and a college of technology in Esa-Oke. He also oversaw the completion of the Osun State Broadcasting Corporation.
After the republic was dissolved in 1994, Adeleke joined an opposition group called Afenifere. However, he later moved to a new political party called the Democratic Party of Nigeria.
Serving as Senator
In 2007, Isiaka Adeleke was elected as a senator for Osun West. His main opponent was Mudasiru Oyetunde Hussein. Senator Adeleke was chosen to be part of several important committees. These included committees on Upstream Petroleum Resources, Integration and Cooperation, Housing, and the Air Force.
In March 2008, he started a scholarship program. This program helped about 100 students from less privileged backgrounds attend colleges and universities across Nigeria.
In July 2009, he was the chairman of the Senate Committee on the INEC. He praised the work of INEC, saying they had done a good job. He also supported the idea that Nigerians living abroad should be allowed to vote in Nigerian elections. Before he passed away, Senator Adeleke was reportedly planning to run for governor of Osun State again in the 2018 election.
