Isla Flecha, also known as the Arrow Island or Isla El Borrego, is a small island located in the Gulf of California. Reptile Residents
Only two types of reptiles are known to live on Isla Flecha. These two species are lizards. They are well-suited to the island's environment.
The Spiny Chuckwalla
One of the reptiles found here is the Sauromalus hispidus. This lizard is also known as the Spiny Chuckwalla. Chuckwallas are large, round-bodied lizards. They are mostly plant-eaters. The Spiny Chuckwalla gets its name from the spiny scales on its tail. These lizards like rocky areas where they can hide in crevices.
The Common Side-blotched Lizard
The other reptile living on Isla Flecha is the Uta stansburiana. This is a smaller lizard, often called the Common Side-blotched Lizard. These lizards are very common in many parts of western North America. They are known for the dark blotch on their side, just behind their front legs. They eat insects and other small invertebrates.
