Isla Islitas is a small island located in the Gulf of California. This gulf is a large body of water that separates the Baja California Peninsula from the main part of Mexico.
The island is not inhabited by people. It is part of the Loreto Municipality in the Mexican state of Baja California Sur.
Wildlife on the Island
Even though Isla Islitas is a small island, it is home to some interesting animals. Scientists have found at least one type of reptile living there.
The Black-tailed Brush Lizard
The only known reptile species on Isla Islitas is the Urosaurus nigricauda, also known as the black-tailed brush lizard. These lizards are usually small and quick. They often live in rocky areas or on trees and bushes. Their diet typically includes insects and other small invertebrates.
