Islallana is a small village in Spain. It is part of the Nalda area, in the region called La Rioja. In 2018, about 122 people lived there.

The village is located right next to the Iregua River. It sits at the bottom of the Sistem Iberico mountain range.

An old irrigation channel, called the Río Antiguo, starts here. It takes water from the Iregua River. This channel helps supply water to several nearby towns. These towns include Nalda, Albelda de Iregua, Entrena, Navarrete, and Fuenmayor.

Islallana celebrates its main festivals on December 3rd and March 11th. Both celebrations honor S. Francisco Javier.

Getting There

Islallana is located along the N-111. This road connects the city of Logroño with Soria.

Cool Places to See

Buildings and Monuments

  • Parish Church of San Pedro Apóstol: This church was built in the 14th century. It is a Romanesque style church. It has a special roof shape called a pointed cannon cover.

Natural Spots

  • Peñas de Islallana: The village is surrounded by amazing rock formations. These are huge groups of rocks called conglomerates. To the west, you can see the Peñas de Berrendo right behind the village.

To the east, there is another group of rocks. The most famous one is called Peña de La Cruz. People in Islallana call it "de La Cruz." There is even a special walk, or pilgrimage, named after it. This walk happens on the first Sunday of May. People climb up to Peña Bajenza, which is 941 meters high.

Around 1:00 p.m., a church service is held on a lower rock. This rock is called La Cruz Pequeña. During the service, the fields and special buns are blessed. These buns are then given to everyone who attends.

These rocks are also home to many black vultures. Because of this, the area is a special protection zone for birds. It is called "Peñas del Iregua, Leza and Jubera."
