Albelda de Iregua is a charming village and municipality located in the region of La Rioja, Spain. As of 2018, about 3,462 people live there. The village covers an area of about 23 square kilometers.

Geography of Albelda de Iregua
Albelda is found south of Logroño, a larger city. It sits in the lower part of the Iregua valley. This area has very fertile land, which is perfect for growing fruits.
The village has several neighbors. To the north are Lardero and Alberite. To the east is Clavijo. Nalda is to the south, and Sorzano and Entrena are to the west. Long ago, there were other small communities nearby that are now empty. These included Longares, Morcuera, and Mucrones.
History of Albelda de Iregua
In 1063, the Bishop of Nájera gave Albelda de Iregua a special Town Charter. This document allowed the people to set up their own rules. At that time, the town was known as Longares.
Albelda de Iregua was home to a Jewish community for many centuries. They lived there from the 10th century until 1492. In 1492, the Spanish Jewish Inquisition caused many Jewish people to leave Spain. About 35 families lived in Albelda de Iregua during this time. They paid taxes to the local bishop. Some Jewish families took the town's name as their own surname. For example, Moses Albelda, a famous Bible writer, lived in Turkey. His family likely came from Albelda de Iregua and moved to Turkey during the Inquisition.
Meaning of the Name Albelda
The name "Albelda" might come from an Arabic term, Bayda Al, which means 'The White'. Another idea comes from the historian Urbano Espinosa. He suggests that "Albelda" means "the village." This name was used in old Christian writings and became common during the Muslim rule from the 8th to 9th centuries. This meaning connects to three monasteries in the area. These were San Pantaleon, the monastery of Albelda, and Las Tapias.
