The Island Ford Lodge is a special old building located in Sandy Springs, Fulton County, Georgia, in the United States. It was built around 1935 as a summer home for a lawyer named Samuel Dunbar Hewlett. A skilled stonemason, John Epps, helped build it.
Samuel Hewlett was an important person in Georgia's government. He worked as the chief of staff for Governor Eugene Talmadge from 1933 to 1937. Being a chief of staff means you are a top helper and advisor to the governor, who is the leader of a state.
In 1950, Mr. Hewlett sold the lodge to a group called the Buckhead Century Club. He kept a small apartment in the building for himself. The club stopped meeting in 1955 and then sold the property to the Atlanta Baptist Assembly. This group used the lodge as a quiet place for meetings and getaways for about twenty years.
After the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area was created in 1978, the National Park Service bought the Island Ford Lodge. The National Park Service takes care of important natural and historical places in the U.S. The lodge was fixed up in the early 1980s and now serves as the main office for the park.

Being on this list helps protect the lodge and recognize its value.
