Isobelle Jane Carmody (born June 16, 1958) is a famous Australian writer. She writes exciting stories in many styles, including fantasy, science fiction, and books for young adults. She has won the Aurealis Award for best children's fiction, which is a big award for writers in Australia!

Early Life and Writing Journey

Isobelle Carmody was born in Wangaratta, Australia, on June 16, 1958. She was the oldest of eight children. When she was just fourteen years old, she started writing her well-known series, Obernewtyn Chronicles. She began this project not long after her father passed away in a car accident.

She kept working on her books while studying at university. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree, focusing on literature and philosophy. Before becoming a full-time writer, she also worked in public relations and journalism.

Her Famous Book Series

Isobelle Carmody is best known for her Obernewtyn Chronicles series. The fifth book in this series, The Stone Key, was released in February 2008. The Sending, the sixth book, came out in October 2011. The seventh and final book in the series, The Red Queen, was released in November 2015.

In June 2007, Isobelle Carmody was a special guest at Convergence 2. This was the Australian National Science Fiction Convention held in Melbourne.

Where She Lives

Isobelle Carmody's partner is Jan Stolba, a musician and poet from the Czech Republic. She spends her time living in two places. She has a home along the Great Ocean Road in Victoria, Australia. She also travels abroad with her partner and daughter, spending about a year in each of her two homes.
