Israel Oliver Peña (born 16 December 1987), known as Israel Oliver, is a talented swimmer from Spain. He has competed in many major events, including the Paralympic Games, where he has won several medals.

Israel Oliver was born in Madrid, Spain. He has a vision impairment, which means he cannot see well. In 2012, he lived in Carrizal de Wit, a town in the Canary Islands.

Swimming Career

Israel Oliver is a para swimmer. This means he competes in swimming events for athletes with disabilities. He has been classified as an S11 swimmer. This classification is for swimmers who have very limited vision or are completely blind.

Early Paralympic Success

Oliver first competed at the 2004 Summer Paralympics in Athens, Greece. He won two medals there:

  • A silver medal in the 4 x 100 meters medley relay.
  • A bronze medal in the 100 meter butterfly race.

He also took part in the 2008 Summer Paralympics.

Competing in 2012

In 2012, Israel Oliver represented the Canary Islands at the Paralympic Swimming Championship of Spain. He earned second place in the 100 meter breaststroke event.

Later that year, he competed at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London. He finished fifth in the 100 meter breaststroke. Before the London Games, he trained hard with the Spanish national vision impaired swim team. They had intense training sessions in the water and on land.

World and European Championships

Oliver continued to compete at a high level. He participated in the 2013 IPC Swimming World Championships. In November 2013, he also competed in the Spanish Age Swimming Championships for blind and visually impaired athletes.

He has won multiple medals at the World Championships and European Championships:

  • At the 2014 IPC Swimming European Championships in Eindhoven, he won a gold medal in the 200 meter individual medley and a silver in the 100 meter breaststroke.
  • In 2015, at the 2015 IPC Swimming World Championships in Glasgow, he won a silver medal in the 200 meter medley and a bronze in the 100 meter butterfly.
  • At the 2016 IPC Swimming European Championships in Funchal, he won two gold medals (400 meter freestyle and 200 meter individual medley) and a silver medal (100 meter breaststroke).

Gold at the Rio Paralympics

One of Israel Oliver's biggest achievements was at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro. He won a gold medal in the 100 meter butterfly S11 event, showing his incredible skill and determination.
