Iva Zanicchi (born 18 January 1940) is a famous Italian pop singer and a former politician. She has a powerful singing voice, known as a mezzo-soprano. People often call her "The Eagle from Ligonchio" because of her strong voice and where she grew up.

About Iva Zanicchi

Iva Zanicchi was born in Ligonchio, a small town in Italy. Her parents were Zefiro and Elsa. She started her music career in 1962 at the Castrocaro Music Festival. She quickly became well-known for her amazing voice.

Singing Success

Iva Zanicchi is famous for winning the Sanremo Song Festival three times. This is a very big music competition in Italy. She won in 1967 with Non pensare a me, in 1969 with "Zingara", and again in 1974 with "Ciao cara, come stai?". She is the only woman to have won this festival three times!

In 1969, she sang for Italy in the Eurovision Song Contest in Madrid. Her song was "Due grosse lacrime bianche". She also performed at the Festival Internacional da Canção in Rio in 1970. Iva has toured all over the world, including the United States, Canada, South America, Australia, Japan, and the Soviet Union. She has even performed at famous places like Madison Square Gardens in New York. She has worked with many great musicians and released many albums throughout her career.

Television Host

From 1987 to 2000, Iva Zanicchi was the host of a popular TV game show. It was the Italian version of The Price Is Right, called OK, il Prezzo è Giusto!. She was the first woman in the world to host this show!

Becoming a Politician

Iva Zanicchi also decided to get involved in politics. In 2004, she ran for a seat in the European Parliament. This is a group of people who make laws for countries in Europe. She didn't get elected right away. However, in 2008, she became a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for Italy. She was re-elected in 2009 and served until 2014.

Iva Zanicchi has one daughter. She is a Roman Catholic.

In 2009, a band called I VazzaNikki was formed. Their name is a funny tribute to Iva Zanicchi! The band plays rock'n'roll and rockabilly music, inspired by the 1950s. They are known for their funny and silly songs. They even performed on a TV show hosted by one of their band members.
