Iva Zanicchi was born in a town called Ligonchio in Italy. Her parents were Zefiro and Elsa. She started her music career in 1962 at the Castrocaro Music Festival. She came in third place there.
Iva is the only woman to have won the important Sanremo Music Festival three times! She won in 1967 with "Non pensare a me." Then she won again in 1969 with "Zingara." Her third win was in 1974 with "Ciao cara, come stai?".
In 1969, she sang for Italy in the Eurovision Song Contest in Madrid. Her song was "Due grosse lacrime bianche." She also performed in the V Festival Internacional da Canção in Rio in 1970.
Iva Zanicchi has performed in many famous places. These include the Paris Olympia and Madison Square Gardens in New York. She has also toured around the world. She visited the United States, Canada, South America, the Soviet Union, Australia, and Japan. She has worked with famous musicians like Mikis Theodorakis and Charles Aznavour.

Iva Zanicchi also became involved in politics. In 2004, she ran for the European Parliament. She didn't win enough votes at first. But in May 2008, she got a seat in Strasburg. She represented the Forza Italia party. She was re-elected in June 2009 and served until 2014.
