His Early Life and Music
Ivan Maksimović was born in Jagodina, Serbia, on August 12, 1962. He started playing the guitar in 1971. He was inspired by awesome rock bands like Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin. His very first band was formed just a year later, in 1972.
Ivan played with many musicians throughout his life. He performed in all sorts of places, from small clubs to huge stadiums. He was also a busy studio musician, recording for about 1500 albums, tapes, and CDs. It's hard to know the exact number because he worked on so many projects!
Besides the guitar, Ivan Maksimović also played other string instruments. These included the bouzouki, tzouras, baglamas, saz, and oud.
Playing with Famous Artists
In 2003, Ivan met the famous film director and musician Emir Kusturica. He then joined Emir Kusturica and Dr Nele Karajlić in their band, The No Smoking Orchestra.
Ivan played guitar on the music for two movies: Life is a Miracle (with The No Smoking Orchestra) and Promise me this. For Promise me this, he also acted as Inspector Maksimovic! He even took part in a special punk-opera called Time of Gypsies, which toured successfully around the world.
