Ivan Rebroff (born Hans Rolf Rippert; 31 July 1931 – 27 February 2008) was a German singer with an incredible voice. He was famous for his wide vocal range, which covered four octaves. This means he could sing from very low notes to very high ones! He was also very tall, over 2 meters (6 feet 7 inches), and often wore traditional Cossack clothes on stage, which made him stand out.

Ivan Rebroff was born in Berlin, Germany, on July 31, 1931. His birth name was Hans Rolf Rippert. His parents were Paul Rippert and Luise Fenske. Even though he was German, he often said he had Russian family. He even said in an interview that his official name was Ivan Pavlovich Rebroff.
Learning to Sing
He studied singing at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg, a famous music school in Germany. Even though his Russian wasn't perfect, he became very well-known for singing Russian folk songs. He also sang opera, classical music, and folk songs from many other countries. People loved his energetic performances on stage.
Worldwide Performances
Ivan Rebroff performed in over 6,000 concerts during his career. This included a long time performing in Paris, France, where he sang and acted in the musical Fiddler on the Roof. He played the main character, Tevye. Even when he was in his seventies, he was still touring and performing many concerts in a short time, like 13 shows in 21 days during a tour in Australia.
Rebroff saw himself as a global artist, connecting different cultures through music. He was even made an honorary citizen of the Greek island of Skopelos, where he lived.
Later Life
Ivan Rebroff passed away in Frankfurt, Germany, on February 27, 2008, after being ill for some time. He left behind a wonderful legacy of music that touched people all over the world.
