Ivan Ivanovich Saenko (Russian: Иван Иванович Саенко; born on October 17, 1983) is a Russian former professional footballer. He played as a winger, which means he was a player who mainly runs down the sides of the field.

Ivan Saenko's Football Journey
Playing for Clubs
Ivan Saenko was born in Maslovka, a place near Voronezh, Russia. He started his professional football career in Germany.
Early Days in Germany
Ivan began playing for Karlsruher SC in 2001. This team was in the second division of German football. He played many games for them and scored 21 goals over four seasons. During this time, he also had a short loan spell with FC Fakel Voronezh back in Russia in 2002.
Moving to Top German League
In 2005, Ivan joined 1. FC Nürnberg, a team in the top German league, known as the Bundesliga. This was a big step up for him. He played for them for three seasons. In 2007, he helped his team win the DFB-Pokal, which is a major German cup competition.
Back to Russia and Retirement
In August 2008, Ivan moved back to Russia to play for FC Spartak Moscow. He made this move because his previous German team, 1. FC Nürnberg, had moved down to a lower league. He played for Spartak Moscow until 2010. Sadly, he faced some injuries during this time. Ivan Saenko officially retired from football in 2011.

Ivan also had the honor of playing for his home country, Russia.
Starting with the Under-21 Team
Before joining the main national team, Ivan played for the Russia U-21 squad. He helped them finish second in their qualifying group for the 2006 UEFA European Under-21 Football Championship.
Debuting for the Senior Team
Ivan received his first call-up to the senior Russian national team in September 2006. He made his official debut a month later, on October 11, 2006, against Estonia. He came on as a substitute in the final minutes of the game.
Euro 2008 Adventure
One of the biggest moments in his international career was being part of Russia's squad for UEFA Euro 2008. This is a huge football tournament for European countries. Ivan came on as a substitute in some important group stage matches. He even started in the quarter-final game against the Netherlands and the semi-final against Spain. He played his 13th and final game for Russia in October 2008.
