Ivanhoe was once a small town in Linn County, Iowa, in the United States. It was located in Franklin Township. Early settlers in Iowa founded this community. Anton Cowles planned the town in 1838. It was surveyed, or officially mapped, in 1841.
Ivanhoe was built where the Old Military Road met the Red Cedar River. Even though it had its own post office from 1845 to 1849, Ivanhoe never became a fully developed town. Unlike other towns founded nearby at that time, Ivanhoe slowly disappeared. Many people who lived there moved to other growing towns. These towns included Mount Vernon, Cedar Rapids, and Marion. Today, the only thing left of the old town is its cemetery.
