Ivor Miles Windsor-Clive, the 2nd Earl of Plymouth (born February 4, 1889 – died October 1, 1943), was an important English nobleman and a politician from the Conservative Party. He held several key government positions during his career.

Early Life and Education
Ivor Windsor-Clive was born on February 4, 1889. He was the only son of Alberta Victoria Sarah Caroline Windsor-Clive and Robert Windsor-Clive, 1st Earl of Plymouth. His father was the 1st Earl of Plymouth.
Ivor went to Eton College, a famous school. Later, he studied at Trinity College, Cambridge, a well-known university. Before he became an Earl in 1923, he was known by his father's other title, Viscount Windsor.
His family had a long history. His grandfather was Robert Windsor-Clive. His mother's father, Sir Augustus Paget, was a British Ambassador.
A Life in Politics
Ivor Windsor-Clive had a busy career in public service. From 1913 to 1919, he was a member of the West St Pancras area on the London County Council. This council helped manage London.
In January 1922, he was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Ludlow, Shropshire. An MP is someone elected to represent people in the UK Parliament. He held this seat until March 1923, when he became the Earl of Plymouth after his father passed away.
Important Government Roles
Lord Plymouth held several important jobs in the government:
- He was the Captain of the Gentlemen-at-Arms from 1925 to 1929. This is a ceremonial role in the Royal Household.
- He served as the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs in 1929. This role involved working with countries that were part of the British Empire.
- From 1931 to 1932, he was the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Transport. He helped manage transport issues in the country.
- He became the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies from 1932 to 1936. In this job, he helped oversee British colonies around the world.
- From 1936 to 1939, he was the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs. This meant he helped with the UK's relationships with other countries.
He is perhaps most remembered for his work as a leader of the International Committee for Non-Intervention in the Spanish Civil War. This committee tried to stop other countries from getting involved in the Spanish Civil War.
Other Public Service
In 1923, he was made Lord Lieutenant of Glamorgan. This is a personal representative of the King or Queen in a county. He also became a Privy Counsellor in 1929. This is a group of advisors to the monarch.
In 1936, he received the Honorary Freedom of Cardiff, a special award from the city. He was also the first mayor of the Borough of Barry in 1939. He served as the President of the National Museum of Wales and as Pro-Chancellor of the University of Wales in 1941. In 1943, he was appointed Sub-Prior of the Order of St John of Jerusalem, a royal order of chivalry.
Lord Plymouth also served as the Chairman of the Royal Commission for Ancient and Historical Monuments in Wales. This group worked to protect old buildings and historical sites.
Family and Legacy
On July 14, 1921, Ivor Windsor-Clive married Lady Irene Corona Charteris. She was the third daughter of the 11th Earl of Wemyss. Together, Ivor and Irene had six children:

The 2nd Earl of Plymouth passed away in 1943 at the age of 54. He was buried in the family plot in Tardebigge, Worcestershire. His wife, Irene, is buried next to him. After his death, his oldest son inherited his family estate, which included the large Oakly Park estate in Shropshire.
